All at sea [Apr. 26th, 2010|05:06 pm]
Richard Clegg

On Saturday Caron and I zoomed about the Thames on a RIB.

We then went to see an extremely silly production of Moby Dick by SpyMonkey which was great fun, albeit with some parts that went on just simply too long (five minutes of Queequeg falling over because he was born somewhere without stairs was a little too much). Still, definitely one to see if you like your comedy strange or simply if you enjoy seeing red headed women running around shrieking and wearing only rubber rings.

Is that an inboard or outboard engine, or some combination of both? I keep seeing a police RIB in Brighton Marina that's got twin 300 HP outboards and I really want a go in it, only not to the extent of causing the police to be transporting me in it. They probably wouldn't even gun it properly anyway.

You know I honestly don't know I was grinning so much I didn't actually look round at the back so it could have been powered by manatees on amphetamines for all I knew (we actually did not know that photo was being taken until after, it was while doing fast zig-zags across the Thames near Canary Wharf).

Zoomed around in a similar boat on the Williamette in Portland. Huge amounts of fun... doing donuts and endo's. Didn't get too wet...

Excellent. We didn't get splashed too much -- the first 15 minutes there and back were under speed restrictions in London anyway. Really fun though.

We really enjoyed it actually... on a sunny day it's a great way to spend an hour. The section from embankment to London Bridge is pretty slow but you get a commentary tour then speed restrictions are lifted not long after that and it's zooooooom.

It was great and not super expensive either -- about 26 quid each I think -- which is not bad for an hour really.

Actaully I got the price slightly wrong -- £29. Not too bad by london prices.
